Stroke remains one of the leading causes of death and disability in the UK. Many lives could be saved, and long-term disabilities prevented, through faster recognition of symptoms, quicker emergency response, and wider access to modern treatments. The Foundation exists to help accelerate these changes at a national level.

The initial priorities are expanding nationwide BEFAST stroke awareness, supporting the development of a fully costed Total Stroke Masterplan, and campaigning for the investment required to achieve near-universal access to thrombectomy treatment.

While many charities focus on patient support, rehabilitation, and research, the Life in a Stroke Foundation focuses on helping create the national awareness, policy, and funding environment that enables the entire stroke sector to deliver better outcomes and save more lives.

The Foundation is being developed alongside the LetsFIXtheNHS initiative, which aims to build a national engagement, media, and partnership platform capable of supporting large-scale public-interest campaigns and system-level improvement initiatives.

Improving stroke awareness and ensuring universal access to life-saving treatments has the potential to save or prevent tens of thousands of deaths and severe disabilities over the coming decade while delivering major long-term economic and societal benefits.

The Foundation will welcome founding supporters, partners, sponsors, and collaborators who wish to help accelerate national awareness campaigns, policy development, and treatment-access improvements.
